I also tried it with some Esbit and some clone heat tabs, and it worked pretty good with those also, but slower.
It's light and packs easy and the carrying case helps make sure you don't cut things up with the somewhat sharp edges.
It does seem just a bit high priced for the amount of metal you actually get, but some of the similar burner-holding stands cost even more I guess. The design and performance of this one actually seems better than some of the higher priced ones, so the value is OK.
I especially like that it can be used either with tablets or with my Esbit alcohol stove. Anything bigger around than an Esbit alcohol stove will fit securely on top of it.
The only potential downside, if I had to think of one, is that it's difficult to light with a standard Bic lighter when your cooking vessel is already on top of it. So that means you have to light the stove and then set your pot or pan on top, which wastes a teeny tiny bit of fuel. Beyond that, I think it's an excellent little stove that does precisely what it needs to do.
Update: On my upcoming AT trip I will be using the tablets as my only fuel source. The tablets absolutely cannot be beaten for safety and weight savings. After using this stove with the tablets in a trial at home with my Toaks mug, I can deal with the soot that the tablets leave behind. The base plate can be protected from wax buildup with a 1" x 1" piece of thin household aluminium foil.Second update: I actually didn't use the Esbit Tabs on my trip. I used the 3 sides with my alcohol burner. I am so pleased with this setup that I feel as though I will never need to change my system again. It is best to check the wind direction and rotate the stove so that the handles of the pot stay cool.
